Welcome to Bibu, Helsingborg and Sweden!

Here in Sweden it is now winter and outside it is below freezing point. But in the Bibu office the temperature is a lot higher since the different performances, programs are being finalized and, in the beginning of 2022, the final planning of the festival will be made.

Right now Bibu has an Early Bird offer that runs up until the last day of January, and if you book that you will have the possibility to book your personal program a week ahead of everyone else and also secure your experience at the ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering – read more about this here

Bibu is the most important meeting place in Sweden for professional performing arts for a young audience – an arena where all of us who work with children, young

people and performing arts and culture, get together to experience and discuss performing arts for children and youth. The presented shows, together with a range of seminars and forums for discussion, makes Bibu a natural place for analysis and reflection on the quality, status and possibilities of the art form. At the same time Bibu is an inspiring opportunity for young people In Helsingborg to experience performing arts together with their schools or parents.

In 2022 we will combine Bibu with the ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering to make an outstanding international get-together in the city of Helsingborg, at the south

west coast of Sweden, a vivid city and region.

The theme for the AAG at Bibu in 2022 will be based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. What role has the performing arts in the strive to accomplish a development with social, economic and environmental sustainability?

The selected Swedish performances are selected by a jury of Swedish practitioners and chosen from the repertoire of the two last years. We offer a selection of 14 productions in a selection based on high-quality performances of all genres reflecting on contemporary artistic expressions.

Additionally, ASSITEJ Sweden will present Young Swedstage with 8 productions especially selected for international touring. Teatercentrum presents also selected productions within their focus on performing in schools.

Bibu also have three different topics that will be highlighted during the festival – how to make performing arts accessible for people with special needs, research symposiums regarding performing arts impact on other research areas and finally how to restart the performing arts for children and youth after the pandemic.

For the international part of Bibu we welcome innovative performances that are visioned, produced and creatively led by Indigenous Performing Artists. The International Committee has selected six productions from all over the world. To create a linking network between the world’s indigenous cultures, Bibu and the AAG 2022 aims to enhance international visibility for indigenous people.

Seminars, workshops, discussions and meetings will relate to the visions of Bibu and the Artistic Gathering and they will raise issues, give us time to reflect and questions to answer, to break down, to discuss and also possibly enhance further development in our field.

Welcome to explore this with us May 2022 in Helsingborg!
